Aeromexico has added an overnight flight from New York Kennedy to Mexico City, upping its frequency on the route from 14 to 19 flights per week. Flights were also added on May 10 to Mexico City from Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

LAN Airlines S.A. and its subsidiaries, one of the leading airlines in Latin America, reported its preliminary monthly traffic statistics and punctuality indicators for April 2010.

Vueling, Spain’s new-generation airline, carried 908,854 passengers in April, up 86.4 percent year on year. The increase in volume reflects the merger with clickair during July 2009. The lower level of occupancy in April from the previous year (-2.1 percentage points) was due to an earlier Easter break this year.

Thousands of cabin crew members at British Airways began a 5-day strike on Monday. The walkout is a result of a growing feud between the airline and the Unite union. The two groups met over the weekend to negotiate jobs, pay and working conditions, including the reinstatement of employee travel benefits which were cut following a previous strike. The talks failed to produce an agreement, so union crew members walked out at midnight local time.

Bookable as of May 6, Air Berlin, Germany’s second-largest airline, will introduce nonstop service to Berlin from Miami with twice weekly service starting Nov. 1, 2010, until April 28, 2011.
