Brazilian no-frills airline GOL’s profit declined in the first quarter due to an increase in costs in the period. GOL reported a first-quarter net profit of 23.9 million Brazilian reals ($13.3 million), down from BRL61.4 million a year earlier.

The United States and Trinidad and Tobago have reached an Open-Skies aviation agreement that will liberalize U.S.-Trinidad and Tobago air services for carriers of both countries. Trinidad and Tobago becomes the 98th U.S. Open-Skies partner.
The European Commission has proposed to open negotiations on a comprehensive aviation agreement with Brazil, which is by far the largest air transport market in South America. According to an economic impact assessment study, an agreement with Brazil could generate up to 460 million euros in consumer benefits a year. The potential for traffic growth is estimated at 335,000 additional passengers in the first year.
JetBlue Airways said it will operate flights to Boston and Florida out of Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), its third airport in the Washington region. It will operate even daily nonstop flights to Boston’s Logan International Airport (BOS) and one daily nonstop flight each to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and Orlando International Airport (MCO) beginning Nov. 1.
