United Airlines said that to offset record-breaking fuel costs it is adding a $5 one-way and $10 roundtrip fuel surcharge that will be incorporated into most domestic fares.

AirTran Airways has announced that it will begin nonstop flights to San Juan, Puerto Rico. The fast-growing, low-fare carrier will begin flying between its hub at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and San Juan Luis Munoz Marin International Airport on March 5, 2008.

Copa Airlines, a subsidiary of Copa Holdings S.A., received delivery today of a Boeing 737-800 aircraft. Copa’s fleet now consists of 26 Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft and 10 EMBRAER-190 aircraft.

Last week, Spirit Airlines started daily nonstop service between its Fort Lauderdale base and Ponce, Puerto Rico. Beginning November 1, 2007, this new service will be via Mercedita Airport, just three miles from Ponce’s business district.
