
Richard Doumeng, incoming President of the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association (CHTA) and Managing Director of Bolongo Bay Beach Resort on St. Thomas, has set his agenda to reinvigorate and reinvent the CHTA by strengthening its individual National Hotel Associations. Mr. Doumeng, a second-generation hotelier and past recipient of the CHTA Caribbean Hotelier of the Year award, takes the helm of the CHTA as the organization celebrates its 50th anniversary.

The Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association (CHTA) is returning to the Bahamas after choosing Atlantis as the host venue of Caribbean Travel Marketplace 2013, it was announced last week. Caribbean Travel Marketplace is the business-to-business marketing event for the region's hotel and tourism industry.

Pinnacle Airlines, the regional carrier whose primary customer is Delta Air Lines, has filed for bankruptcy under Chapter 11. It is struggling to deal with high fuel prices and weak demand. The airline said that it wants to restructure itself so it can return to profitability. Its initiatives include restructuring its key operating agreements with Delta Air Lines, winding down its operations with United Airlines.

The Annual Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Investment Conference (CHTIC) will be held at the Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino in San Juan in 2012 and 2013, according to officials at the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) and Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), which will jointly sponsor the conference.
