Esencia developers Alberto Remirez, Nicolas Dominguez and Federico Carstens have joined forces to form Hamak, a hotel group in Mexico. Formerly of Prohotels Management and Hotel Ikal del Mar (currently known as Tides Riviera Maya), the trio launches this new endeavor with a focus toward the creation and operation of eco-conscious hotels throughout Mexico. Together, the three hospitality professionals combine more than 50 years’ first-hand experience operating luxury boutique hotels and resorts throughout Mexico.
NH Hotels has converted an impressive 19th century mansion in the arts district of Madrid as part of ambitious renovation plans. The careful renovation has managed to recover the building which was originally built in 1808 by Jorge Duran, and which was designed in part by Juan de Villanueva, who designed the Prado Museum. The new NH Palacio de Tepa is a luxury hotel located on the San Sebastian Street with access to Atocha Street and the Plaza del Angel.
Carlson announced the further expansion of the Radisson brand in Chile. The opening of the Radisson Petra La Dehesa Hotel in Santiago marks the brand’s expansion in the country as part of its Ambition 2015 growth strategy. “Radisson currently operates six hotels in the country with another one in development,” said Thorsten Kirschke, president of Carlson Hotels, Americas. “The addition of a third Radisson hotel in Santiago represents a continued momentum in our Ambition 2015 growth strategy and is aligned with plans to expand Radisson as a vibrant, contemporary and globally consistent brand in key cities, resorts and airports.”
In celebration of its 10th anniversary, The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Miami has completed a significant refurbishment with the redesign of its public and private spaces. The new design blends gold, blue and brown hues. Guests can experience the new spa and reserve the “10th Anniversary Spa” package.
The Palmyra Resort & Spa in Montego Bay, Jamaica, opens Dec. 15 with 200 out of 299 apartments, penthouses and villas. However, due to high owner demand, only a few units are available for rental over Christmas and New Year’s. “We expect to have a full house,” said Lester Scott, general manager.
The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Marriott International, has signed a deal with the regional government of Aruba to open an exclusive 320-bedroom oceanfront resort situated on the Caribbean island’s Palm Beach. The $200 million resort is set to open in late 2012 and will offer a luxury spa, two swimming pools, a 24-hour casino and a range of restaurants.
