On the eve of granting the city of Havana the status of Cocktail Capital of Hispanic America, Rafael Anson delivered a master lecture at Havana University.

Rafael Anson, President of the Iberian-American Gastronomy Academy and a member of the International Gastronomy Academy (AIG is the French acronym), arrived in Havana Sunday night to preside the ceremony that will turn Cuba’s top city into the Cocktail Capital of Hispanic America.

The Culinary Union will hold the strike vote May 22 at a university arena near the Las Vegas Strip. A majority of yes votes would allow the union’s negotiators to call for a strike at any time starting June 1.

A blast of Cuban art is hitting the Kennedy Center this month. The “Artes de Cuba” festival kicked off at the Eisenhower Theater on Tuesday night with an exuberant cornucopia of music offering a foretaste of two weeks of performances.

Kilauea, an active volcano on the Big Island, erupted on May 3, causing nearly 2,000 residents to evacuate. A magnitude 6.9 earthquake was also recorded on May 4 and aftershocks from the eruption are ongoing.

Bartlett, who was awarded the Caribbean Tourism Minister of the Year at the Caribbean Travel Awards 2017, said that tourism, as an industry, can only operate when security is in place.
