Tourism officials say Florida has set a new record with 54.1 million visitors in the first half of 2015 — the highest number in any six-month period in the state's history.

The Center for Democracy in the Americas is calling on the Obama administration to further relax restrictions on travel to Cuba.

The pace of travel to Cuba has accelerated since December, when President Obama loosened travel restrictions. That pace can be seen in visitor numbers, which in June alone topped 218,000, a 20.6% increase over June 2014, according to Cuba’s National Office of Statistics and Information.

To succeed as a tourist destination, each Caribbean country banks on the support of the government, hotel partners, investors, developers, the airport authority, businesses and friendly locals.

Thailand’s visitor arrivals count surged by one million in only nine days with the arrival of the country’s 19 millionth visitor.

This trip is unusual not only in being for women only, but also in how much it focuses on the natural environment and the wildlife of the island, an area not often emphasized on trips to Cuba so far.
