The Tampa area already struggles against Orlando, the top tourist destination in the world, to gain a share of the visitors who come to spend money in Florida.

Thirty percent of US adults are planning or would consider a trip to Cuba in the next two years, according to the poll. One in five (20 percent) said that this is because of the relaxed restrictions and 27 percent said they are more interested in visiting Cuba since President Obama announced the policy changes last December.

One such program is offered by ARCC Programs (Adventures Cross-Country), a California-based operator, who will conduct two 14-day trips for high school students this summer that combine culture with community service.

The worldwide tourism community is reacting in kind, and Tourism Cares is leading the charge. The organization announced a large-scale relief and recovery effort today and is calling on every corner of the travel industry to assist in the cause.
