London, Paris and New York’s dominance in international tourism is being eroded by the rise of Budapest, Mumbai and Beijing. Since the turn of the 21st century, tourism to advanced economies has grown 31.4%, while in emerging economies tourism is up 89.1%, according to the UN World Travel Organization Travel Barometer.

Haiti’s government has released a short list of four developers for a potential development on the island of Ile a Vache. The list, released through the Ministry of Tourism, includes four firms that will undergo a review of pre-qualification.

Dominican President Danilo Medina attended the launch of the Ocoa Bay agro-tourism project, described as the first resort of its kind in the Dominican Republic, and located on the Bay of Ocoa in the south west of the country.

Edward Dest, Acting Director of Tourism for St. Maarten opened the recent Annual Overseas Marketing Representatives Meeting calling for "closer co-operation with our partners" to improve both the tourism product and generate more visitors to St. Maarten.

International tourist arrivals grew by 5% during the first half of 2013 compared to the same period of 2012, reaching almost 500 million, according to data just released by UNWTO.
Growth was above the projection made at the beginning of the year and is also exceeding the trend of the UNWTO long-term outlook.
