Increased frequency of flights by European airlines and Copa’ Airlines to and from Tocumen International have helped boost tourist visits to Panama by 4% in the first six months of the year. Some 1.1 million tourists, mostly from South America and Europe contributed $1.212 billion to the economy an increase of 10.5% over the same period in 2012

Spanish sovereignty and Spanish tourism are clashing on the border between Spain and the British held enclave of Gibraltar. The latest eruption of tensions over the territory was sparked by the construction of an artificial reef on Gibraltar that has raised the ire of Spanish fishermen who say it impedes the movement of their boats.

Now three months into the travel window of the summer’s best value added package programs, the Barbados Island Inclusive, the Barbados Tourism Authority has relaunched the program with an August booking window.

A slow year for cruise ship arrivals continued with the number of visitors hitting a record low in June. But the gloomy statistic was offset a bit by a slight increase in air arrivals and the confirmation that cruise numbers will increase dramatically next year.

The Ministry of Tourism for the island of Anguilla is celebrating an increase of 20.2% in visitor arrivals during the month of June. The island has been enjoying a stellar year in tourism with total arrivals for the second quarter showing a recorded increase of 13.8% when compared to the same period of 2012.
