According to the World Tourism Organization, Peru's growth in visitor arrivals makes the nation a world leader. In 2013, Peru international visitor arrival number was 2,800,000, an 8.5 percent increase.

Despite the widespread economic downturn, the Caribbean tourism industry has survived, albeit not entirely unscathed. However the region is once again showing an increase in arrivals and a moderate growth across industry value. Increasing investments in the hotel sector have also begun to see results.

The Chilean destination of Lake Llanquihue has completed the Global Sustainable Tourism Council’s (GSTC) Early Adopters pilot program to test its new Criteria and Indicators for Destinations.

Puerto Rico Gov. Alejandro Garcia Padilla on Tuesday signed into law a bill to establish Brand Puerto Rico, with the aim of projecting an image of the Caribbean island as an attractive tourist destination.

The logjam earlier this year of license renewals for companies operating people-to-people programs to Cuba appears to have loosened, as the licenses now are rolling in at a steady clip. A&K’s first departure is now set for Sept. 6, with additional departures later this year.
