The Jamaica Tourist Board had rolled out two online training modules and a series of fam trips in the final stages of the CTO Caribbean month. The tourism board is to host 150 agents during its ‘Jamaica Five-O’ mega fams, which continue into this month and it has also continued to visit agents on its roadshow, including those on the Isle of Man.

Jamaica tourism minister Edmund Bartlett has been touting the continued success of the destination to potential tourism partners in Palma de Majorca, Spain. He was particularly keen to stress the national tourism product would not be disrupted by the decision by Bruce Golding to step down as prime minister.

The International Council of Tourism Partners (ICTP) announced that the Grenada Board of Tourism has joined their alliance as the first representative from the Caribbean. The ICTP is now expanding their list of founding members to include Grenada.

Tourism experts are calling for a reappraisal of intra-Caribbean and Diaspora travel, a market they say is at present untapped. Traditionally, Cayman’s overwhelming majority of stayover arrivals is drawn from the North American region.

Officials at the Caribbean Tourism Organization have welcomed a decision by UK Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne to cut Air Passenger Duty on long-haul flights departing from Northern Ireland. The decision was confirmed at the end of September.

The Ministry of Tourism has joined with the Gilbert Agriculture & Rural Development Centre (GARDC), the local partner for the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Co-operation (CTA), to develop information management and partnership strategies needed for policy formulation and implementation.
