The Aruba Tourism Authority has launched a newly designed Web site, http://www.aruba.com/, featuring new technology, simpler navigation and expanded content. The site also features images of Aruba, a schedule of upcoming events, plus offers and deals for vacationers.
The 2010 National Travel and Tourism Week kicks off on May 8 with the launch of the U.S. Travel Association’s effort to generate one million industry advocates in its newly launched “Power of Travel” coalition. Under the theme of “Stand Up and Be Counted,” 35 cities across the country will participate in Travel Rally Day on Tuesday, May 11, to highlight the important contributions of the travel industry and its employees to local economies.
Ashford Castle, a historic five-star castle hotel, recently received the Gold Medal for Environmental Management at the Green Hospitality Award ceremony, held in Galway, Ireland. Ashford Castle was one of 16 hotels throughout Ireland to win an accolade, and one of six to receive a top honors with a Gold Medal.
The Singapore Tourism Board is smiling when it looks towards 2010. The STB announced its forecasts for the tourism industry for 2010 yesterday, and it is predicting 11.5 to 12.5 million in visitor arrivals and approximately $9 billion in tourism receipts.
The Orlando/Orange County Convention & Visitors Bureau, Inc. (Orlando CVB) has launched a global search for 67 smiling people who will win a vacation to Orlando for World Smile Day on Oct. 1. Sixty-seven is the number of days determined to experience the more than 100 attractions Orlando offers. Winners from around the world will be selected based on written or video submissions sharing how Orlando makes them smile.
The twin Caribbean islands of Antigua and Barbuda hosted 26,030 overnight tourist arrivals in the first quarter of 2010, a 12 percent increase over the same period in 2009, said John Maginley, Antigua and Barbuda minister of tourism. Year-to-date annual arrivals totaled 71,238, a 1.2 percent increase over 2009.
