The Colombian Ministry of Tourism has launched the new “Rutas del Café” (Coffee Routes) program, highlighting the country’s coffee-growing regions as destinations for experiential and sustainable travel. The initiative aims to attract both domestic and international visitors seeking authentic cultural immersion.

The routes will connect small coffee farms in Quindío, Caldas, and Risaralda, offering tourists hands-on activities such as coffee harvesting, roasting workshops, and farm-to-cup experiences.

According to Tourism Minister Carmen Caballero, the project is part of Colombia’s strategy to decentralize tourism and empower rural communities. “Our coffee culture is not only a product — it’s a way of life,” she stated.

The program will also promote eco-lodges and agrotourism experiences, designed to minimize environmental impact while supporting local entrepreneurship.

Industry experts believe that “Rutas del Café” could help position Colombia as a leader in sustainable rural tourism in Latin America, appealing to travelers seeking authenticity and nature-based experiences.

With growing interest in responsible tourism, Colombia is leveraging its iconic coffee heritage to create new opportunities for regional development.
