Cuba Expands Tourism Portfolio with New Luxury Resorts

Cuba has announced the opening of three new luxury resorts in Varadero, Cayo Coco, and Holguín, part of a strategy to diversify its tourism offering and attract higher-spending travelers. The announcement was made by the Ministry of Tourism during a press event in Havana.
The new properties will be managed by European hotel chains, including Meliá Hotels International and Blue Diamond Resorts, both of which already have a strong presence in the country. The resorts feature spa facilities, eco-friendly design, and premium dining experiences.
Cuban officials said the initiative responds to increasing demand for luxury and sustainable travel, particularly among European and Canadian markets. The resorts have been built with renewable energy systems and waste management programs.
Tourism remains a vital source of foreign income for Cuba, which welcomed over 3 million international visitors in 2024. The government expects to surpass 4 million arrivals in 2025 as air connectivity continues to improve.
Local communities will benefit from new employment opportunities, while partnerships with local farmers and artisans aim to strengthen Cuba’s domestic supply chain.
The move reinforces Cuba’s image as a destination in transformation, combining its cultural richness with a modern tourism infrastructure.
