The Dominican Republic has signed a new agreement with major European airlines to increase direct flights from key cities including Paris, Madrid, and Frankfurt starting in 2026. The initiative is expected to significantly boost arrivals from Europe, a market that already sends over one million visitors annually.

Tourism Minister David Collado announced the agreement during a press conference in Santo Domingo, noting that expanding connectivity is crucial to maintaining the Dominican Republic’s position as the Caribbean’s most visited destination.

The new flights will primarily serve Punta Cana, Santo Domingo, and Puerto Plata, three of the country’s busiest gateways. Authorities believe this expansion will diversify source markets and reduce dependency on North American travelers.

European tour operators have already expressed interest in packaging the additional flights with all-inclusive resorts, eco-tourism excursions, and cultural heritage tours. Officials expect the move to benefit both coastal and inland regions.

The Dominican Republic has also committed to enhancing airport facilities and improving ground transportation to support the expected rise in arrivals. Investments in digital customs clearance and streamlined immigration are underway.

This agreement positions the country for continued growth, reinforcing its reputation as the Caribbean’s tourism powerhouse.
