Corendon Unveils the World’s First Fully Tattooed Aircraft

In a bold fusion of aviation and art, Corendon Dutch Airlines has unveiled the world’s first fully tattooed aircraft. The project, created in collaboration with Dutch tattoo legend Henk Schiffmacher, marks a historic milestone as the airline celebrates its 25th anniversary. Covering nearly 200 square meters of fuselage, the design transforms the aircraft—named Sweet Louise—into a flying tribute to the freedom and beauty of travel.
Known for tattooing icons like Lady Gaga and Kurt Cobain, Schiffmacher infused the aircraft with nautical imagery in classic tattoo style. Central to the design is a pirate-turned-heart symbol inked onto the engine, representing the eternal wanderer and the spirit of exploration. “Tattoos tell stories,” Schiffmacher shared. “This one captures my travels and the connections I’ve made. It’s about movement, love, and the desire to discover.”
The idea was born from a casual conversation between Schiffmacher and Corendon CEO Gunay Uslu, who instantly embraced the vision. “To celebrate 25 years of Corendon, we wanted to do something bold and unforgettable,” said Uslu. “This collaboration symbolizes who we are—adventurous, unconventional, and driven by passion for travel. The tattooed aircraft is a tribute to our roots and our journey.”
The design process was intricate, requiring the tattoo to be adapted to the unique shape of the aircraft without losing its artistic essence. The final result is a visual masterpiece that soars above expectations, turning heads wherever it lands. Schiffmacher named the plane after his wife, Sweet Louise, adding a personal layer to this already intimate artwork.
With this extraordinary project, Corendon has redefined what it means to celebrate an aviation milestone. The tattooed aircraft is not just a plane—it’s a flying canvas, a symbol of adventure, and a reminder that travel, like art, is about storytelling, discovery, and human connection.
