The West Coast cruise market received a significant boost today as Princess Cruises celebrated the debut of its newest Sphere-class ship, the Star Princess, at the Port of Los Angeles.

This 177,800-ton vessel is the second in the line's new class and the largest ever to homeport in Los Angeles, accommodating over 4,300 passengers. The ship is powered by Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and features the "The Dome," a transformative glass-enclosed space inspired by the terraces of Santorini, which functions as a pool by day and a performance venue by night.

The arrival of the Star Princess is a mechanical necessity for the Port of Los Angeles as it seeks to maintain its status as the premier West Coast cruise hub.

With over 60 years of partnership between the port and Princess Cruises, the addition of a Sphere-class vessel allows the region to capture the growing demand for high-capacity, tech-forward cruising to Mexico, Hawaii, and the California Coast. The ship also features an expanded MedallionClass experience, using wearable tech to personalize every aspect of the guest journey.

For the 2026 traveler, the Star Princess offers a "next-generation" resort experience at sea, featuring 30 distinct dining and bar venues and a massive wellness studio.

The ship’s layout includes over 1,000 balcony staterooms and a new luxury spa that integrates biometric feedback to customize treatments. As travelers increasingly seek local homeports to avoid international flight disruptions, the presence of the Star Princess in L.A. provides a convenient and premium getaway option for the Western U.S. market.
