With the purpose of promoting the country as a tourist destination, Panama will be participating in the International Tourism Trade Fair 2024 (FITUR), which is considered the most important annual event for the international tourism sector specializing in the vacation leisure segment.

This event, which will be held from January 24 to 28 in Madrid, Spain, will become the epicenter of tourism innovation, where Panama will present its most recent experiences in sustainable tourism, accompanied by 24 local tourism providers.

"For our country, this fair represents opportunities to promote itself as a destination, generate attention from important international buyers and publicize the tourism offer and the competitive attributes it offers to this segment," said Fernando Fondevila, CEO of Panama's Tourism Promotion Fund (PROMTUR).

He added that this year, the Panamanian delegation will include the participation of tourism operators awarded in the five categories of the Innovative Community Tourism Experiences contest, organized by the Panama Tourism Authority (ATP) and the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) with the purpose of highlighting, together with local communities, innovative, sustainable tourism experiences ready to be offered to the international tourism market.

Among the presentations are the following categories: Wonders of the Ocean, "Eco Ruta Tortuga" experience, from the province of Veraguas; Panama Multicultural, "Panama Sand & Folklore" experience, from the province of Herrera; Birds in Paradise, "Los Secretos de Playa Muerto" experience, from the province of Darien.

Also presented will be the "Bridge of the World, experience "Live the Caribbean and more: Pirates, Connections and Nature of the Caribbean of Panama", from the Province of Colon and Forests of Life, experience "Crossing the Isthmus: the Crystalline Northwest", from the Province of Veraguas.

FITUR provides spaces for the exchange and promotion of the destination through conferences, seminars and other activities that allow both tourism professionals and attendees from the general public to keep abreast of the latest trends and challenges in the tourism industry worldwide.

Participants include companies that provide transportation services, travel agencies, tourism technology companies, as well as government representatives and tourism entities. It is estimated that this year's participation will total 9,000 companies and more than 150,000 international travel industry professionals representing 145 countries.
