Hotel Bookings Off to a Great Start in September

September surprises the Spanish tourism sector with the best hotel reservation figures in the last five years, 17.04% above the data for 2019, according to the world's leading open hotel trade platform SiteMinder, and much higher to the average (+11.45%) of the 40 countries analyzed. In our closest environment, only Portugal is above Spain, with hotel reservations that are 28.24% higher than 2019 levels.
Travelers extend the summer and to the usual reservations are added those of the last minute: more than half (53%) of all reservations in the last two weeks are for stays in September. These SiteMinder data show that the desire to travel persists and that Spain continues to be a top tourist destination for Spaniards and foreigners.
The difference with the previous months is that, while in July and August there was a balance between national and foreign tourism, in the month of September the international market will mainly stand out. International travelers see September as an ideal time to travel around our country, with milder temperatures and fewer crowds. 67% of expected guests in September are
international, according to data from the SiteMinder World Hotel Index.
International tourism grows steadily for the coming months. In fact, 57.6% of all reservations made in August correspond to international travelers, compared to 55.6% a year ago.
