TUI Cruises Moves Base to La Romana, Dominican Republic

This winter, TUI Cruises will start its seven-day cruises from the port of La Romana, Dominican Republic, through March. The port of La Romana will replace Santo Domingo, also in the Dominican Republic, as the port of departure and arrival of Mein Schiff.

“During the first tour we found that the conditions were not as good as they could have been in Santo Domingo for the passenger change-over,” said Richard J. Vogel, chief executive of TUI Cruises. “To ensure that the change-over goes off smoothly, we have decided to do this with immediate effect in the nearby port of La Romana.”

La Romana is about a 90-minute drive from Santo Domingo. TUI Cruises is a joint venture of TUI AG and Royal Caribbean Cruise Ltd. The company, formed in April 2008 and based in Hamburg, has been offering holidays at sea in the German-speaking market since May 2009. The Mein Schiff is the first ship of the fleet and is aimed at couples and families.
