AMResorts Unveils New $400 Million Cap Cana Development

AMResorts announced a new $400 million development in the Dominican Republic.

The project, “Gems at Cap Cana,” will be comprised of a four-resort complex consisting of the 200-suite Zoëtry Gems at Cap Cana, the 350-suite Secrets Gems at Cap Cana, the 350-suite Now Gems at Cap Cana, and the 200-suite Now Preferred Gems at Cap Cana. The new resort complex was unveiled during a press conference held on Friday, March 26, 2010 at Secrets Sanctuary in Cap Cana with Dominican Republic President Leonel Fernandez in attendance.

“This is the most important project to date for AMResorts and it’s been in the works for years,” said Alex Zozaya, president of AMResorts. “Gems at Cap Cana will give American visitors who haven’t already been to the Dominican Republic a new reason to come.”

The new-build properties – with construction slated to begin at the end of this coming June – is set to be completed in 2012. In addition, the four resorts will share “The Promenade,” which will encompass more than 148,000 square feet of retail and recreational space, including a 30,677-square-foot convention center, a spa, a 20,000-square-foot casino, gourmet restaurants and bars, a retail collection, an Explorer’s Club for kids and an artists’ square. All resort guests will have access to “The Promenade.” By 2012 AMResorts will have 30 properties, including 10 resorts, totaling 3,300 rooms in the Dominican Republic.
