Antigua & Barbuda Capitalizes on Prospects for Royal Honeymoon Venue
The Antigua Observer
The US tourism office is hoping to capitalize on the attention Antigua & Barbuda is receiving after it was reported that the royal couple soon to wed might honeymoon on Barbuda.
The news that American Idol country singer Kelly Pickler who married songwriter Kyle Jacobs in Antigua and raved about her experience on the Ellen DeGeneris Show in February, is also propelling the destination.
US Director of Tourism, Derede Samuel-Whitlock, in a release, said the team intends to harness this increased media attention to propel this year’s Romance Month. In addition to weddings and honeymoons, this year’s celebration will feature engagements, proposals, renewals, encore nuptials and other special celebrations between couples.
Whitlock indicated that the US and Canadian Tourism offices will collaborate to stage this year’s Romance Month celebrations which will feature two weddings, educational programs and forums
These strategic programs will leverage the destination’s strongest assets such as “no residency requirement”, majestic sunsets and spectacular views, secluded beach settings and world-class cuisine and hospitality to help differentiate the product. Several pre and post events have been added to the calendar to build momentum and increase opportunities for locals and visitors to celebrate romance year round.
A program of events aimed at positioning Antigua & Barbuda as the “Romance Capital of the Caribbean” will begin with a Royal Champagne Tea Party on the eve of the royal wedding. This media event will promote the destination as a premier wedding and honeymoon locale, with strong ties to Princess Diana, who vacationed in Barbuda at least four times
