Auberge Resorts Plans Riviera Maya Resort

Auberge Resorts, whose many luxury properties include the Auberge du Soleil in California’s Napa Valley and Esperanza in Los Cabos, plans to open a 50-suite resort on Mexico’s Riviera Maya.

The property will be part of the Kanai Resort, an exclusive, master-planned, beachfront community being developed by joint-venture partners Alhel and GIM Desarrollos, two leading Mexican real estate development companies.

Groundbreaking for the project is scheduled for later this year and opening is expected in 2013, a spokeswoman said.

In a statement, the company said that the “structures comprising the Auberge resort will appear to float like islands among fields of dense green vegetation and will be connected by a series of boardwalks and pathways.”

All the rooms will have large terraces, private plunge pools and outdoor showers. The Auberge property will feature a spa, restaurant, swimming pool and beach club bar and grill. The Kanai Resort is located about six miles from Playa del Carmen.

The resort area is expected to comprise a 200-room Park Hyatt, a 180-room W Retreat, a 125-room St. Regis resort and the Auberge property.
