Caribbean, Mexican Hotel Development Pipeline Includes 124 Hotels

There are 124 hotels in the Caribbean/Mexico hotel development pipeline, accounting for 20,676 rooms, according to the April 2013 STR Construction Pipeline Report. The “total active pipeline” does not include projects in the pre-planning stage. Seven hotels, representing 912 rooms, have opened in the two regions year-to-date.

Another 35 hotels are expected to open with 5,644 rooms in the remainder of 2013. The most new rooms will be in the “luxury” segment (seven hotels with 2,387 rooms) and “upscale” segment (10 hotels with 1,439 rooms). A total of 53 hotels, with 9,799 rooms are expected to open in the two regions in 2014.
