Cayman Airways, Air Jamaica Discuss Cooperation
In a preliminary meeting on Monday, Cayman Airways and Air Jamaica began to explore several areas of cooperation that would redound to the benefit of both carriers.
These discussions come on the heels of a meeting of Ministers of Tourism and International Transportation held in Antigua a few weeks ago where both airlines were present and a meeting in Washington, DC, on June 24, 2008.
These meetings were convened to discuss the crisis which the Caribbean region is now facing from the fallout in airlift, which is as a result of the spiraling increases in the price of fuel and associated challenges in the airline industry and the role of regional carriers in such an environment.
Both airlines agreed to meet and discuss areas of cooperation that could reduce costs and improve efficiencies. Tourism is a common factor the Cayman Islands and Jamaica from North America and in that regard both airlines agreed that ways need to be found to not only maintain but increase airlift to their respective territories through joint cooperation.
