Visitor numbers to Hong Kong increased in 2008, thanks to increased arrivals from China (PRC). The Hong Kong Tourism Board announced that arrivals in 2008 totaled 29,506,616, an increase of 4.7 percent on 2007.

Arrivals from mainland China totaled 16,862,003, 8.9 percent more than in 2007 and 57.1 percent of the 2008 total. In contrast, non-mainland arrivals registered a slight drop of 0.3 percent to 12,644,613 -- with the decrease more prominent on long-haul sectors.
