Commune Hotels Announce Mexico, Chicago and Hawaii Properties
After announcing the newly formed hotel group last month, Commune Hotels & Resorts will manage a luxury resort in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Slated to open in 2014, the resort will be known as the Thompson Cabo San Lucas. The oceanfront property is located at Olamar and offers views of El Arco (The Arch). The 114-room resort will include an additional 60 condominiums as part of the overall development.
The company also confirmed it has assumed management of the Seaside Hotel in Honolulu. The hotel will undergo a renovation and be relaunched as a Joie de Vivre hotel in December 2012. In the interim, it is being managed as an independent property.
In Chicago, where Joie de Vivre’s Hotel Lincoln opens this week, Commune Hotels & Resorts will renovate and reposition the 244-room Sutton Place in conjunction with AJ Capital Partners and Walton Street Capital. The hotel will be relaunched as the Thompson Chicago in late 2013 following a $25 million renovation. Also undergoing renovation is Hotel Victor in Miami Beach; it will complete its transformation into Thompson Hotel Ocean Drive in late 2012.
In addition, the company reported that as a result of its restructuring and revised Thompson brand standards and in agreement with the properties’ owner LaSalle Hotels, Sax Chicago and Donovan House in Washington, D.C. will exit Commune’s 46-property portfolio in April. The company will continue to manage Gild Hall in New York City for LaSalle Hotels and plans to work with LaSalle on more projects.
