The eighth session of the Cuba-Grenada Joint Commission came to a close Wednesday as it achieved reactivation and strengthening of cooperation in health, education, culture, construction and civil defense.

Among the standout agreements, the Cuban commitment to contribute to the creation of a civil defense system in the Caribbean island nation for the early detection of natural phenomena, training and recovery of people is worth noticing.

Grenadian Einstein Louison, Minister of National Security and Development of Trade and Private Sector, asserted Havana´s experience in the field may help his country, which was devastated by the fury of Hurricane Ivan on September 2004.

Bilateral collaboration for 2005-2006 envisages actions in a baker´s dozen fields, especially education, to apply the literacy program for adults Cuba has successfully implemented in Haiti and New Zealand.

Under the projects, Cuba will train Grenadian technicians and professionals, and will help finish the construction of a new hospital in Saint George.

In addition, a brigade of the Cuban Telecommunication Company will travel to Granada to rebuild the telephone and communication system crippled by hurricane Ivan last year.

Accords also comprise the training of Grenadian people in farming and economy fields, as well as the formation of sport and dancing teachers.
