El Salvador, Honduras to Host 2017 UNWTO Regional Commission for the Americas

El Salvador and Honduras will be hosting the 61st meeting of the World Tourism Organization’s Commission for the Americas. The decision has been one of the main outcomes of the 60th Regional Meeting that has just come to a close in Havana, Cuba.

The meeting in 2017, which is scheduled to be simultaneously held in both El Salvador and Honduras, will follow this format for the first time in the history of the organization. The Salvadoran capital is going to witness debates on organic matters, while the technical seminar will be taking place at the Honduran city of Roatan.

The sixtieth edition of the WTO Regional Commission Meeting for the Americas has taken place within the framework of FITCUBA 2016 International Tourism Fair. The event welcomed 130 representatives from 29 countries, including seventeen ministers.

The challenges and opportunities of the travel industry in the Americas and WTO’s work program in the region have been the main matters discussed during the sessions. The participating countries have reached a consensus on a joint declaration of support to Ecuador as an expression of solidarity on the heels of the earthquake that pounded the country in late April.
