FITCuba 2008 Comes to a Close in Havana

After four days of toilsome work, intense negotiations and contracts to clinch the success of the upcoming high-peak travel season, the region’s number-one tourism fair (FITCuba 2008) came to a close in Havana.

The closing session ended with the issuing of postal stamps dedicated to the event, genuine artworks that feature the first seven villages founded in Cuba that still preserve their guarantees of origin: Baracoa, Bayamo, Trinidad, Sancti Spiritus, Santiago de Cuba, Camaguey and Havana.

The ceremony was presided over by Cuba’s Information Technology & Communications Deputy Minister Alberto Rodriguez Arufe and Tourism Deputy Minister Maria Elena Lopez.

Attendants also witnessed the launch of a catalog entitled “Cuba: A Mosaic of Cultures” with 27 chapters that recount a multitude of references to Cuba and its cultural values, “a distinctive element that singles out the island nation,” said Aleida Castellanos, Head of the Tourism Ministry’s PR and Communications Division.

“Marti and the World Cruise”, a book authored by Eduardo Puente Fernandez, professor at the Holguin School of Hotel Management and Tourism, was presented. Using a fast-reading language, the work sheds valuable light on Cuba’s tourism sector.
