Grupo Posadas Cancels Tulum Hotel Project in Quintana Roo

Grupo Posadas' hotel project in Chemuyil, Quintana Roo, Mexico has been canceled as a result of a failure to meet the necessary environmental requirements, according to Mexican trade publication Reportur.mx.

Despite six years of proceedings, the $600 million plan to construct three different concept hotels has been squashed, with the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources refusing to endorse the ecological management plan put forward by the municipality of Tulum.

Led by Jose Carlos Azcarraga, Grupo Posadas boasts half of a dozen different brands, including Live Aqua, Fiesta Americana and Vacation Club.

This week's news comes on the heels of the official launch of Grupo Posadas' Fiesta Americana Resort Collection, which comprises a dozen distinctive resort properties located through Mexico.

"The Fiesta Americana Resort Collection brand offers a variety of resort experiences; no two properties are the same as each caters to a broad range of tastes and type of travelers whether they are looking for secluded romance, a memorable family vacation or an extraordinary adventure," said Grupo Posadas Chief Operations Officer Enrique Calderon in a statement.

Based in Mexico City, Grupo Posadas is Mexico's largest hotel holding company and operates more than 140 properties across eight different brands.
