Iberia´s Traffic in October 2005 Increased by 9.5 Percent

Traffic measured in revenue passenger-mile (RPM) went up 9.5 percent for Spanish airline Iberia in the month of October, compared to the previous year, against a capacity increase of 5.5 percent. The number of passengers surged by 6.5 percent, reaching 2.5 million, of which 1.1 million corresponded to international routes.

Following the strategy of increasing intercontinental flights in a higher proportion, long-haul capacity rose by 8.2 percent compared to the previous year. Traffic maintained the good performance of the previous months, growing by 10.4 percent and continuing the improvement of the mix.

Mid Atlantic traffic grew by 18 percent, while capacity soared 14 percent. Traffic climbed more than 20 percent in flights to Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Panama and Mexico. North Atlantic capacity jumped by 1.7 percent, while traffic dropped by 0.6 percent.

Traffic went up 5.5 percent and capacity increased by 3.7 percent, highlighting in both cases the growth in routes to and from Brazil.

In the international medium haul, traffic spiked by 8.8 percent against a capacity increase of 0.7 percent. In Africa and the Middle East, traffic shot up 19.8 percent and capacity ramped up by 14.9 percent.
