Iberostar Expands, Upgrades Mediterranean Portfolio Properties

Iberostar Hotels & Resorts continues to build its portfolio in the Mediterranean with two new openings and three hotel renovations in the region. In Mallorca, Spain, Iberostar reopened the Royal Cupido and the Club Cala Barca after extensive renovation projects. In Marbella, Spain, Iberostar recently acquired the Marbella Coral Beach, which will undergo a complete remodeling project this winter, with a reopening scheduled for April 2011. In addition to opening the Diar El Andalous in Sousse (Tunisia), Iberostar inaugurated the newly built Royal El Mansour in June 2010 in Mahdia (Tunisia).

“The renovation of our properties in Mallorca is a result of the 2010 international expansion plan that aims to provide customers with a premium holiday experience and benefit the local tourism industry,” said John Long, vice president of sales and marketing for Iberostar. “The new acquisitions in Marbella and Tunisia add to Iberostar’s significant existing presence in both of the regions and, alongside the refurbishment of Tunisian property, demonstrate Iberostar’s ongoing commitment to constantly improving its portfolio with exciting projects in popular destinations.”

Iberostar Royal Cupido, located in Mallorca’s Playa de Palma, next to one of the island’s best golf courses, the adults-only hotel has been re-designed with modern and chic décor. The four-star, 168-room hotel is close to the bustle of Mallorca’s city-life but also the tranquility of the beach. Offerings include a 4,305-square-foot Zen Space Spa, a main restaurant offering international cuisine, along with a snack bar, pool terrace and a modern chill-out bar.

Iberostar invested $24 million into the refurbishment of the Club Cala Barca, renovating its reception areas, parks, leisure areas and bedrooms. Ideal for families, the hotel offers a kids club and a wide program of sports and open air activities organized by a team of professionals.

Iberostar Marbella Coral Beach is located on the coast of the Costa del Sol. The Marbella Coral Beach combines exquisite Arabian and Spanish design influences and boasts views of the sea, hotel gardens and swimming pool. The 170-room hotel offers authentic Spanish restaurants and bars, a wellness center and gym and meeting rooms ideal for hosting corporate events and special occasions. The property is set to close in the fall and undergo an extensive remodeling project, with a grand reopening scheduled for April 2011.
