Iberostar Opens First All-Inclusive Resort in Cancun
Spain-based hospitality company Iberostar Hotels & Resorts this week unveiled Iberostar Cancun, the newest addition to the company’s portfolio of all-inclusive resorts in Mexico. The property, for which a special winter promotion was announced in November, marks part of the company’s expansion strategy and was previously the Hilton Cancun. The property is now officially owned by Iberostar and represents the company’s ninth property in its Mexico portfolio.
The cost of the initiative, including purchase and renovation, is over $100 million. The beachfront hotel features 426 rooms and villas, including 16 junior suites, four master suites, two villa beach suites, and a presidential suite.
Among the resort’s other features are seven infinity pools, a professional soccer field, two tennis courts, a spa, gym and beauty salon. It is also the only hotel in Cancun with an 18-hole golf course.
The hotel complex has a nearly 49,000-square-foot convention center, which is dividable into 22 different meeting space configurations. Over 60,000 square feet of outdoor area for events and social activities is also available.
Renovations began upon Iberostar’s acquisition of the property last summer. The main lobby has been refurbished as has the hotel lobby bar, and new terraces around the pools have also been constructed. Property updates also included a new buffet and four specialty restaurants -- gourmet, Japanese, steak house and Mexican. Future updates may also include the construction of a new stage/amphitheatre for shows, in addition to a kid’s “Miniclub” water park and a “Teenieclub” for youths.
