Jamaica’s Tourism Officials Examine Multi-Destination Tourism in Cuba

Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism and Entertainment Wykeham McNeill is among a group of top-level tourism officials from the region who are currently examining ways to promote multi-destination tourism in the Caribbean and Latin America.

McNeill, who is currently in Cuba, participated in a meeting on multi-destination tourism in Latin America and the Caribbean, which was held on Monday at the Hotel Nacional in Havana.

The minister explained that "the meeting facilitated discussions on multi-destination tourism, with a view to establishing a working group or council comprising experts from countries such as Jamaica and Venezuela, to examine how multi-destination tourism may be introduced in the region and to develop a plan of action for this collaborative approach."

McNeill, who departed the island on the weekend, is being accompanied by the Director of Tourism, John Lynch who also attended the meeting.

McNeill is also scheduled to participate in the highly anticipated 33rd Havana International Tourism Fair, (FITCuba 2013), which kicked off Tuesday. The event seeks to facilitate fruitful exchanges aimed at boosting the promotion of Cuba as a tourism destination, and will be held in the resort town of Varadero from May 7 to 11, 2013. FITCuba has become an important forum for tourism business negotiations as well as developing and concretizing new and existing business links between tourism partners.
