JetBlue Plans to Open Ticket Office in Havana

JetBlue, the first U.S. carrier to start scheduled flights to Cuba in 2016, announced its intention to open a commercial office in Havana that will be responsible for reporting on its operations on the island and on all booking sales.

JetBlue President Robin Hayes, who is currently visiting Cuba, said he has visited several places to open the office in Havana. Hayes said it was "a great honor" for JetBlue to restart scheduled U.S.-Cuba commercial flights eight months ago, a project that has required a "major investment."

"We have built a very good partnership with Cuba's civil aviation authorities," said the president of the airline as he underscored the advice he received from his company in the process of adding operations to the island nation.

He also highlighted the security infrastructure at airports and aviation operations on the island, which can be compared to those in other markets around the world.

Following the diplomatic thaw between the Havana and Washington governments in 2015, the administration of then-U.S. President Barack Obama signed an agreement with Cuba on civil aviation and authorized 110 flights to the island, 20 to Havana and 90 to other Cuban cities.

The first flight -operated by JetBlue- landed in Cuba on August 31, 2016 with a route from Fort Lauderdale to the city of Santa Clara in central Cuba.
