Luxurious 18-hole Golf Course and Resort on Aruba’s Eastern Shore Soon to Break Ground

When The Links at the Divi staged their grand opening event in 2004, several notables from the world of golf attended, including Parker Smith, Senior Editor of GOLF Magazine and Edward Gowan, Executive Director of the Arizona Golf Association.

Both were quite taken by Aruba and all it had to offer, and conceptualized a luxurious resort centered around a world class 18-hole course. Alex Nieuwmeyer, General Manager of Divi Properties in Aruba, also a golfing enthusiast, understands the fanatical dedication to the sport by golfers around the globe, and has been facilitating the developers in realizing their project.

The location chosen for this development, which will feature a 270-room resort plus condominium complex, is a stretch of land beginning at the large red anchor that marks the entrance to the old Lago Colony and extend up Hospital Hill, where the resort will stand, allowing golfers a stunning view of the east coast while teeing off on the 18-hole course.

Prior to commitment to establishing this facility on a part of Aruba which has not been developed as has Palm Beach and Eagle Beach, the company initiated environmental, social and financial impact studies; it is their firm belief the resort and golf course will only have the most positive effect on the area on all counts.

The final papers and permits are due to be signed within a few days, and Sunrise Rock Development Group expects to break ground in November. “The international golfing community is a level of island visitor which is highly desirable,” observed Mr. Nieuwmeyer.
