Magdalena Grand Beach Resort Opens in Tobago

Tobago’s Magdalena Grand Beach Resort opened officially on the former site of the Tobago Hilton. The result of a partnership between the property’s operator, efm Hospitality, and the Trinidad and Tobago government, Magdalena Grand Beach Resort is Tobago’s first major beachfront property in 12 years.

“Since its opening, over 17,000 room-nights have been booked with guests,” said Kamala Persad-Bissessar, prime minister of Trinidad and Tobago, at a June ceremony marking the resort’s opening. “I feel we can all agree we are off to a very good start and the state’s investment has already begun to generate returns.”

The 178-room property is located on the 750-acre Tobago Plantations Estate, a luxury gated community of villas, condos and bungalows. Accommodations are highlighted by 22 one- and two-bedroom suites equipped with personal Jacuzzis and large terraces and balconies. Public facilities include three swimming pools, including an adults-only pool; a dive center with a dedicated training pool; an 18-hole golf course with pitching and putting greens and a driving range; and tennis courts. The property offers several restaurants, bars and casual dining options including a pool-side and beachfront grill, swim-up pool bar and a pastry shop and café.

In-room amenities include marble bathrooms; high-definition, flat-screen televisions with satellite-based programming; and complimentary wireless Internet service. Services include room service from 6 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., concierge service, a business center, a 24-hour fitness center, a beauty salon, tour desk, and convenience and gift shop. The resort is offering travel agent commissions of 12 percent for bookings made through Aug. 31, 2012.
