Mexican hotels will rake in revenues in the neighborhood of 10 billion pesos (some $800 million) during the Holy Week season, a time of year when Mexicans pack all sun-and-sand destinations around the country, the hoteliers’ guild reported.

“The local hotel sector will make some 10 billion pesos worth of revenues during this oncoming Holy Week season,” pointed out Miguel Torruco, president of the Hotel and Motel Association of Mexico (AMHM is the acronym in Spanish).

The most sought-after spots are Acapulco (south), Cancun (southeast), Puerto Vallarta (west) and the beaches in the states of Oaxaca (southeast) and Veracruz (east).

In keeping with official figures released by AMHM, roughly 89 percent of Mexican vacationers trek to a local travel destination during the Holy Week observance, while a meager 11 percent venture northbound to the U.S. states of Texas, California, Nevada, Florida and New York.

During the Holy Week season –it kicked off last weekend- hotel occupancy in most beach destinations peaked a hundred percent. Approximately 86 percent of the beachfront infrastructure is made up of small and midsize lodgings.
