Ryanair Appeals Aviation Regulator’s Decision to Approve Check-in Desk Increase
Ryanair announced that it had filed a further legal challenge against a decision by the Aviation Regulator, to rubberstamp a 50 percent increase in check-in desk charges at Dublin Airport.
“The CAR, who is supposed to protect users and the traveling public, is allowing the DAA monopoly to double charge users for the same cost, given that airport users are already paying for check-in desk costs through excessive airport charges. The DAA monopoly has also announced another double charge for Self Service (check-in) Kiosks (SSKs), which Ryanair has said it will oppose,” as the carrier stated.
“This is yet another example of a failed regulator who is in breach of his statutory duties to protect the reasonable interests of users. This regulator has repeatedly rubberstamped excessive and unjustified price increases by the airport monopoly he is supposed to regulate,” the carrier’s statement went on to explain.
“We will continue to sue this inadequate regulator as long has he continues to fail in his statutory duty to protect the interests of users and continues to rubberstamp 50 percent price increases by the DAA monopoly,” Ryanair’s Jim Callaghan said.
