Spain’s La Manga Club Voted Best for Families, Golf

The five-star La Manga Club resort has twice as many reasons to celebrate after UK travelers highlighted its credentials in both The Sunday Times Travel and Today’s Golfer magazines readers’ awards.

Today’s Golfer readers declared the prestigious venue as Spain’s best hotel/resort, with 42 per cent of votes in the magazines travel awards, while in The Sunday Times Travel readers’ awards it was recommended as Best family-friendly European Resort Hotel.

The accolades will come as no surprise to regular visitors to La Manga Club which regularly hosts high-profile golf events and, in recent years, has considerably expanded its already impressive provision for children and families.

La Manga Club has previously hosted the Spanish Open and is a current venue for both European Tour and Ladies European Tour Qualifying Schools. It is also a leading contender in the race to hold the 2015 Solheim Cup and welcomes numerous big-name corporate and celebrity events each year.

Young golfers also have plenty to experience with the Lee Westwood Golf Academy set to follow up its 2011 debut with two week-long courses this summer. And that’s not the only opportunity for children to benefit from expert tuition, as Italian football giants AC Milan will be hosting their junior camp at La Manga Club, giving youngsters the chance to benefit from their top coaches, while Daley Thompson’s Adventure Fitness company will be running athletics courses – designed by the double Olympic gold medalist and overseen by world-class athletes – which cover a range of track and field disciplines.

All of this is in addition to La Manga Club’s own junior club and academies for golf, tennis, cricket, rugby, football and dance, and the resort’s Funlandia program of activities which provide children and families with a variety of fun and games including swimming lessons, dance classes, jewelry and clay workshops, movie nights, treasure hunts and face painting, most of which are completely free of charge.

The pair of accolades is the latest in a long line of awards bestowed on the resort and come as it enters its 40th-anniversary year. La Manga Club boasts unrivalled facilities as a sport and leisure venue including three 18-hole championship golf courses, a 28-court tennis centre and a 2,000sqm spa and fitness centre. It also offers the choice of a five-star hotel, four-star serviced apartments and townhouses, more than 20 bars and restaurants and great fun for children.
