Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide announced a partnership with GJP Hotels & Resorts to open the Sheraton da Bahia Hotel Salvador, Brazil in the first quarter of 2013. The new property will be located at the former Hotel da Bahia, a historic 284-room property that is currently undergoing an extensive renovation.

The Sheraton da Bahia Hotel will be the sixth Sheraton property in Brazil, and is part of the brand’s plan to reach 500 Sheraton properties by 2015. A seventh Sheraton, the Sheraton Reserva do Paiva Hotel and Conference Center, will be Starwood’s ninth property in the country and is scheduled to open in Recife in the first quarter of 2014.

The Sheraton da Bahia will feature 284 rooms including 16 suites, plus two restaurants, a 1,938-square-foot spa with a salon and sauna, a swimming pool, a business center, and a large meetings and event facility comprising more than 27,000 square feet. The hotel is located in the city center with direct access to Sete de Setembro Avenue, a major city roadway.

“This property presented a great conversion opportunity for Starwood based on the strength of the Sheraton brand in Brazil,” said Ricardo Suarez, vice president of acquisitions and development for Starwood Hotels & Resorts in Latin America. “In 2013, we will continue to bring the brand to the most important cities in Latin America as part our aggressive expansion strategy.”
