STR Global Reports Increases for Hotels in Americas Region

Hotels in the Americas region recorded positive results in the three key performance metrics when reported in U.S. dollars for June 2010, according to data compiled by STR and STR Global.
The region’s occupancy rose 7 percent to 64.9 percent, average daily rate increased 1.8 percent to $100.31, and revenue per available room increased 8.9 percent to $65.11.
Among the key markets in the region, Buenos Aires, Argentina, reported the largest occupancy increase, rising 25.7 percent to 62.6 percent, followed by Montreal, Canada (up 23.9 percent to 77.7 percent), and Mexico City, Mexico (up 20.4 percent to 59.7 percent). Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was the only market to experience an occupancy decrease, falling 8.4 percent to 57.4 percent.
Montreal reported the largest ADR increase, rising 34.7 percent to $156.49, followed by Toronto, Canada (up 31.1 percent to $152.13), and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (up 26.5 percent to $171.28). San Juan, Puerto Rico (down 5.2 percent to $145.66), was the only market to post an ADR decrease.
Washington, D.C. ended the month flat at $148.79. Four markets achieved RevPAR increases of more than 25 percent -- Montreal (up 66.9 percent to $121.65), Toronto (up 55.9 percent to $121.64), Buenos Aires (up 33.9 percent to $82.30), and Mexico City (up 29.5 percent to $67.47). San Juan posted the only RevPAR decrease, falling 2.7 percent to $106.03.
Looking at performances of key countries in June (all monetary units in local currency), Argentina’s occupancy was at 57.7 percent, up 24.6 percent. The country’s ADR was ARS 481.80, up 10.5 percent and RevPAR was ARS 277.97, up 37.8 percent. Brazil’s occupancy was at 63.5 percent, up 2.1 percent.
The country’s ADR was BRL 188.24, up 4.3 percent, and RevPAR was BRL 119.47, up 6.5 percent. Canada’s occupancy was at 70 percent, up 8.2 percent. The country’s ADR was CAD $138.43, up 6.1 percent, and RevPAR was CAD $96.89, up 14.8 percent. Mexico’s occupancy was at 53.8 percent, up 13.7 percent.
The country’s ADR was MXN 1,186.88, up 8.6 percent and RevPAR was MXN 638.96, up 23.5 percent. The United States’ occupancy was at 65 percent, up 6.9 percent. ADR was at $98.33, up 1 percent and RevPAR was at $63.87, up 8 percent.
