SuperClubs to Close Breezes Rio Bueno Resort in Jamaica

Jamaica’s Breezes Rio Bueno resort, formerly the Grand Lido Braco, will close April 30 after an unsuccessful and “strenuous two-year effort to arrive at a mutually satisfactory lease arrangement with the owners,” said John Issa, chairman of SuperClubs Super-Inclusive Resorts, which operates Breezes, in a statement release late Thursday.

“The owners had ample opportunity to secure a new operator, but it appears none has been found,” said Issa.  “It is very unfortunate that we could not come to an arrangement to keep Breezes Rio Bueno open, but that is the nature of this business.”

Issa said his company had “terminated its lease for ‘force majeure’ but continued to operate the hotel in good faith during negotiations.” SuperClubs “deeply regret[s] the prospect that over 300 loyal team members will lose their jobs in these harsh economic times,” Issa said.  The owner of the property is the National Insurance Fund, an agency of the government of Jamaica.
