Uniworld remodeled the River Queen and River Empress in time for the 2010 season in Europe. The project was led by Beatrice Tollman, godmother and namesake of the River Beatrice, and president of Uniworld’s sister company, Red Carnation Hotels (RCH). Uniworld says its “boutique, hotel-style” vessels each have a unique look and feel.

The River Queen, the only river cruise ship with a working fireplace, has been transformed in blues and white tones paired with warmer browns and creams. In the main lounge, some of the furniture is draped in navy and white Turnell & Gigon fabrics and the bar top is white Caesarstone.

The River Queen’s staterooms have different patterns and color schemes. The 400 category of staterooms have blue and white fabric walls and curtains in a leaf design by Bernard Thorpe. The 300 category has red and cream fabric walls with a traditional crewel design and Roman shades in cream fabric from Marson with fine stitching. The 200 and 100 categories have green and cream pinstripe fabric walls and Roman shades in a cream corduroy fabric by Warwick.

On the River Empress, category 400 staterooms feature a cream and grey fabric with a floral sway band from Marson, and carpet with a scallop traditional trellis design. Category 300 staterooms have James Hare blue and beige silk pavilion stripe fabric walls and Roman shades in light blue with grosgrain ribbon bands. The 200 and 100 category staterooms are adorned in aqua and cream fabric walls and Roman shades in aqua.

All staterooms on both ships have custom-made English Savoir beds with headboards of various designs and bathrooms with marble in various color schemes. Amenities such as L’Occitane bath products; towels from Christies of Manchester, the oldest towel maker in Europe; and bathrobes can be found throughout the Uniworld fleet.
