Gabriel Escarrer, chief executive of Meliá Hotels International, has announced that the company will seek to eliminate all single-use plastics in all its hotels within the year.

AMResorts will be responsible for brand management, sales and marketing of the three resorts, which represent a total of 1,329 guest rooms, while Grupo Hotelero Santa Fe will maintain operational control.

Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts will ban the use of single-use plastics at its all-inclusive properties in the Caribbean and Spain by 2020.
