Sandals and Beaches Resorts Chairman Gordon “Butch” Stewart and other Sandals representatives in New York Tuesday afternoon told Travel Agent’s Joe Pike the Caribbean all-inclusive giant is still actively pursuing a possible expansion into Mexico. “This is something we’ve actually been trying to do since ‘87 and ‘88,” Stewart told Pike, “but we are still hunting.”
Spanish hotel and resort company Sol Meliá announced that it is to open its first regional hotel in Dubai. The Meliá Dubai, a 164-room “urban resort,” will open on Oct. 12, 2011, to coincide with national day in Spain.
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. opened its first all-inclusive resort — The Westin Resort & Spa, Playa Conchal in Costa Rica. The property, formerly known as the Paradisus Playa Conchal Resort, will begin renovation on its 406 suites and all public areas, which will be conducted in phases through December 2011.
