Official end of year figures released by Tenerife Tourism Corporation show that 2011 was a record year for tourists to the island, with the UK showing an increase of 10.6 percent compared to 2010. Some 1,658,315 holidaymakers visited from the UK, the highest annual figure since the peak of 2005.

Cuba reported an increase in tourist arrivals from Argentina, from where more than 21,000 travelers had visited the Caribbean island by February 19, according to official Cuban sources.
