Spain continues to hold on to the crown for the most popular Easter holiday destination for Brits, according to data from Carhiremarket.com on car hire bookings. For the period 31st March to 15th April, a huge 35 percent of UK holidaymakers have booked to jet off to Spain.

According to preliminary estimates released by Visit Florida, the state’s official tourism marketing corporation, an estimated 85.9 million visitors came to Florida in 2011, an increase of 4.4 percent over 2010. This represents a record year for visitation to Florida, exceeding the previous high of 84.5 million in 2007.

The Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism launched a multi-channel promotional campaign incorporating print, online and broadcast media focusing on attractions, destinations, activities and services available to travelers. The campaign, entitled the "Dominican Republic is Closer Than You Think,” relies on “social media terms as metaphors for socializing with others about a vacation in Dominican Republic.

The Caribbean tourism industry is holding its own, remaining afloat and resilient amid turbulence in the marketplace, according to a top statistician. The larger destinations, including Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, continued to lead the pack in the region.
